Ceng Beng
the Ceng Beng (Hokkien) is an annual ritual of ethnic Chinese to worship and pilgrimage to the cemetery in accordance with the teachings of Confucius.
This traditional Chinese festival falls on day 104th after the solstice in the winter (or the 15th day of days and night long equations in the spring), and every leap year, Ceng Beng was held on april 4th.
Ritual activity begins by cleaning the cemetery or pendem usually done 10 days prior to the Ceng Beng. Activities carried out since early morning until down to do prayers and put offerings.
items needed for Ceng Beng ritul is offerings of various fruit (sam kuo),chicken or pig (sam's),wine,cakes,and food vegetarian (cai choi),and they burn something like paper money and 'garu' (hio).
the legend of Ceng Beng.Once upon a time people veri rich pilgrimage was not only held once a year, but can be many times and the show was
made full of luxury and really show of wealth. One day, Emperor Tang Xuanzong seen all these as bulk waste only. He also decreed that all self-limiting and is only held once a year pilgrimage. And he setted a day Ceng Beng(fifteen days after Chunhun, or the day on which the sun reached the equator) as a good day to this. Apart from the Ceng Beng is a good day (meaning of words Ceng Beng, or Qing Ming, is a "clear and bright"), today was chosen because many farmers have finished harvesting and have free time to visited ancestral graves. Be Ceng Beng is not only the activities of the rich, but the activity for everyone.
Moral of Ceng Beng ritual:
Ceng Beng festival ultimately related to the pillars of Chinese culture is respect for the ancestors, food, kinship, harmony, loyalty, filial,and togetherness. And it's not just there at the
Ceng Beng ritual alone but reflected on all the Chinese festivals that exist.
With respect to ancestral means we must keep our attitude to life so as not to tarnish thename of the ancestor. Hopefully the Ceng Beng festival, we realized how we honor the ancestors, namely simple way give a positive contribution to our environment and Always keep our behavior so as not to disgrace the ancestors.
